Director of Global Policy & Markets


The Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council is a global non-profit organization, with founding members and a Board made up of executives and business leaders from leading energy companies, technology providers, investors, and end-users. The LDES Council advances the decarbonization of our world through the acceleration of long-duration energy storage by providing member-driven, fact-based guidance and research on the deployment of long-duration energy storage for society's benefit. 

 

Launched on November 4, 2021 at COP26, the LDES Council is rapidly growing and has established itself as a catalyst in driving global dialogues on long duration storage by providing fact-based guidance and information drawn from members’ expertise. 

 

We are seeking a Global Director of Policy & Markets to join our team and support our rapid growth. This position will lead the Policy & Markets team to deliver world class policy analysis and advocacy to advance the deployment of LDES. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Build and lead the LDES Council’s global Policy & Markets team, including developing the team’s strategy, identifying priority markets, and driving the stakeholder engagement strategy.     
  • Develop policy guidance and advocate for the advancement and adoption of LDES technologies.  
  • Represent the LDES Council with senior stakeholders, at events and conferences, and in the media. 
  • Manage delivery of reports, responses to consultations and other essential outputs to deliver positive change in policy and market frameworks as they relate to LDES. 
  • Build and strengthen existing and new partner networks and strategic partnerships. 
  • Maintain extensive familiarity with energy, investment, and corporate regulations to advise relevant team members, partners, etc. 
  • Lead engagement with members on global policy issues. 
  • Secure new members for the LDES Council and support member retention. 

 

Qualifications

Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of global energy and climate policy, including an understanding of the role of energy storage. 
  • A strong track record leading policy teams to deliver change, ideally in the energy sector. 
  • Proven leadership & management experience and skills. 
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and media engagement skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines. 
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. 
  • Ability to work with a wide range of cultures across different time zones. 
  • Willingness to undertake frequent international travel. 

 

 

Preferred qualifications 

  • Experience in industry/trade associations, ideally including business development/member recruitment. 
  • Experience working in teams (including remote working) across multiple time zones. 
  • Additional major international languages.

Location 

This position is remote. Strong preference for someone based in Europe (including the UK).
