About the LDES Council

The Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Council is a global non-profit organization with founding members and a Board made up of executives and business leaders from leading energy companies, technology providers, investors and end-users. The LDES Council advances the decarbonisation of our world through the acceleration of long duration energy storage by providing member-driven, fact-based guidance and research on the deployment of long-duration energy storage for society's benefit.

Launched on November 4, 2021 at COP26, the LDES Council is rapidly growing and has established itself as a catalyst in driving global dialogues on long duration storage by providing fact-based guidance and information drawn from members’ expertise.


We are now seeking a Research & Data Intern to support our work tracking LDES projects, analyzing industry trends, and contributing to key research initiatives.


Position: Research & Data Intern

Location: Remote (+/- 3 hours Central European Timezone)

Employment Type: Paid internship (Full-time, 6 months with a possibility to extend)

Role Overview

The Research & Data Intern will play a vital role in managing and updating the LDES Council’s global project tracker, supporting industry research, and contributing to the development of key Council publications. This internship is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about clean energy, data management, and technology research who is looking to gain hands-on experience in the industry.


Key Responsibilities

Project Tracker & Data Management

  • Maintain and update the global LDES project tracker, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Organize and enter project data, identifying and filling gaps
  • Conduct research to track new projects, funding announcements, and technology deployments.
  • Work with external partners to innovate on developing a new format for the tracker.

Database & Research Support

  • Work with Excel, Google Sheets, and other database tools to manage energy storage project data.
  • Assist in data gathering, cleaning, and analysis for internal reports and publications.
  • Support research on energy storage technologies, policies, and industry trends.

Technology Lookbook & Content Creation

  • Assist in updating and formatting the LDES Technology Lookbook with clear, visually appealing content.
  • Support the development of research-based materials, including reports, presentations, and white papers.

Industry Research & Monitoring

  • Monitor and track new energy storage projects, policy developments, and market trends.
  • Summarize key findings for internal discussions, presentations, and external reports.
  • Compile industry insights from various sources to inform Council initiatives.

General Support & Learning Opportunities

  • Assist with outreach to industry stakeholders to gather project data and insights.
  • Support team projects related to energy storage research, data tracking, and member engagement.
  • Contribute ideas to improve research methodologies, workflows, and Council initiatives.
  • Gain exposure to industry leaders, emerging technologies, and key policy discussions, providing a valuable opportunity for learning and career development within the organization.


Ideal Skills & Qualifications

  • Comfortable working with data management and analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets, or similar).
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to summarize complex information clearly.
  • Interest in energy, sustainability, and emerging technologies.
  • High attention to detail and ability to organize large datasets.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Educational background or experience in energy, engineering, policy, or data analytics is a plus.
